We replace worn cells with new Samsung 35E high-current cells and keep the original Leica housing and electronics. After regeneration, the battery can have up to 50% more capacity than the factory one.

{ 02 Symptoms }
Typical symptoms of worn cells
The indicator shows 30–40% charge, yet the total station shuts down during reflectorless measurement. Worn cells cannot hold their voltage when the EDM rangefinder or GSM modem briefly draws more current, which interrupts work at the station.
After long storage or a deep discharge, the GKL211 or GKL311 charger signals an error and does not charge the battery. Most often this is BMS protection, not permanent damage to the battery.
Below freezing, worn cells lose voltage quickly. A fully charged battery lasts only a few hours, and the CS20 controller loses power before the measurements are finished.
A new original battery is a significant expense, and cheaper third-party packs do not always fit the total station well. Meanwhile the housing and electronics are usually in good order, and only the cells wear out.
{ 03 Regeneration }
The housing and electronics of a Leica battery are durable. Over time it is the cells that wear out, and they cause the voltage drops during measurement. Regeneration means replacing all cells with branded high-current cells (Samsung 35E) and calibrating the BMS, so that the total station or level shows the real charge level.
{ 01 Housing and cells }
We keep the original Leica housing with its factory latches. We replace all Li-ion 18650 cells.
{ 02 BMS electronics }
We keep the original Leica BMS circuit. If the thermistor is damaged, we replace it.
{ 03 Contacts and charging }
The contacts stay original and the battery is fully compatible with GKL211, GKL221 and GKL311 chargers. After fitting the new cells, we activate and calibrate the BMS.

{ 04 Benefits }
Why regeneration instead of a new battery or a third-party replacement
Leica housings and electronics are designed for many years of service. The cells wear out, so they are the only part we replace.
Stable power during measurement
High-current cells hold their voltage when the EDM rangefinder and modem briefly draw more current. The total station does not shut down in the middle of a measurement.
More capacity than the factory pack
Current 18650 cells have a higher energy density than cells made a few years ago. After regeneration, the battery can run longer than a new factory unit.
Factory fit of the housing
The original housing secures the battery firmly in the total station slot. Third-party packs can fit less well, which may cause play or difficulty removing the battery.
Correct charging and readings
The original Leica BMS stays in place, so GKL chargers charge the battery without errors, and the total station and controller show the real charge level.

The regeneration process
Submit your order
Fill in the order form with your battery model (GEB211, GEB221, GEB331/333/334) and a description of the symptoms. You send only the battery, without the total station, level or charger.
Label and packing instructions
We prepare a courier label (DHL, DPD or UPS) and packing instructions in line with the regulations for shipping lithium batteries.
Free diagnostics
We measure the resting voltage and internal resistance of the cells and check the BMS, latches and contacts. If we find an additional fault, we contact you before starting work.
Cell replacement
We build a new pack from high-current cells, spot-welded with nickel strip, and connect it to the original Leica electronics.
Load test
Every pack goes through a full charge and discharge cycle under a load matching total station operation. We check capacity, voltage stability and temperature.
Return of the battery
We pack the battery in line with the regulations (UN3480, UN3481) and return it by courier to the address you provide.
